| 94217 : 94217 - Representative Protozoan Slides, Set of 25 |
|
| Major morphological types and major biological relationships are all represented. Included are examples of solitary and colonial green flagellates, showing their characteristic flagella and chloroplasts. Also the animal flagellates to show flagella and some of their basic body types (Trypanosome, Leishmania and hypermastigophorans). Representatives of the Class Sarcodina show several types of pseudopods and at least one test or shell type. Ciliates include several macronuclear types, mouth structures, fission, conjugation and body shapes. Sporozoans have been selected to show basic morphology of the malarial parasites (in both nucleated red blood cells of birds and non-nucleated red blood cells of mammals) and the coccidian life cycle to illustrate schizogony, merozoites and oocysts. Ecological relationships illustrated vary from the specific predator-prey relationship of Didinium and Paramecium through the parasitic relationship of Leishmania (causative agent of Kala-Azar, oriental sore, and mucocutaneous leishmanias), Trypanosoma (causative agent of African and American sleeping sicknesses), Plasmodium (causative agent of human, monkey and bird malarias). The fascinating slides of cattle ciliates and termite flagellates represent mutualism in which both host and protozoan benefit. Packed in a plastic slide box. |
