Ask a Question

Nutrient Agar is used to grow bacteria cultures for experiments. High quality dried hydrophilic colloidal substance obtained from various species of algae. Useful for many routine microbiology applications. Read all labels and SDS before using.
  • Carefully blended for consistency and reliability
  • Easily prepared with water
  • Longer shelf life than ready-to-use media
  • Economical alternative

Instructions: Mix 1 level teaspoon (approximately 2.2 grams) of dehydrated nutrient agar with 100 ml (3/8 cup) of room-temperature water. Bring to a boil while stirring to ensure the agar is completely dissolved and to sterilize. Pour 10-12 ml hot agar in each petri dish, just covering the bottom. Replace the dish top immediately after pouring to prevent contamination. Let dishes stand 1 hour for agar to solidify. This recipe makes 100 ml of nutrient agar solution, enough to cover 8-10 standard 90 mm petri dishes.
