Basic Owl Pellet Study Kit for up to 15 Groups (#LA37)
Owls eat by swooping down and swallowing an entire small animal. Because owls have weak stomach muscles and stomach acids, they regurgitate any undigested materials. These "owl pellets", often contain fur, feathers, skulls, bones, teeth, claws, beaks, insect exoskeletons, and other assorted items. Students use illustrations to identify the prey remains. Dissecting an owl pellet can be used to study the food web of a particular eco-region. Kit includes (1) Teacher’s guide, (30) student worksheets and guides, (15) owl pellets (collected from a single region, sterilized, and individually wrapped), and (15) probes. Additional pellets available.
