Methyl Cellulose, 1.5% Solution, 30mL. Often used in a microbiology class, the primary purpose of methyl cellulose is to slow down fast-moving, live organisms so they can more easily be viewed under a microscope. Add a drop to your water sample on a slide, and the methyl cellulose creates a thick, syrupy liquid that prevents the organism from darting about.
A dilute solution of at least 1.5% slows protoans without killing them, altering their osmotic balance, or changing their natural appearance. Students can then study live behaviors like feeding, contractile vacuole pumping, and structural morphology in real time. We recommend a quick search of of how to use the methyl cellulose for your particular application, as protocols may vary. SKU BZ0040, MPN AD-M0040D-30ML.
