Owl Pellets for Dissection and Discovery are a fun and exciting way to introduce life science dissection. Owls have a specialized digestive system which allows them to swallow prey whole. The indigestible parts are compacted into a pellet in the gizzard and later regurgitated. Dissecting an owl pellet can teach the concepts of food webs and food chains, while identifying the small animals that are prey for the owls. The pellets are heat sterilized and individually wrapped in foil. Available in packages of 40 pellets or 5 pellets. 

These small owl pellets can be carefully broken apart with items you may have home, such as a shallow box top or tray for a work surface, tweezers and something to probe with, like a sharpened pencil, protective gloves, and plastic bags if you would like to keep your specimens for future observation. You may find bones, skulls, fur, feathers, or insect parts. This single activity can lead to several topics and categories of life sciences.
